To honor this Semiquincentennial anniversary, the United States Mint has unveiled an ambitious and historically rich lineup of coins that will circulate in everyday commerce and appeal to collectors worldwide.

A Historic Circulating Redesign Program

For the first time since the Bicentennial in 1976, most U.S. circulating coins are receiving new, one-year-only designs — each uniquely crafted to tell a story about the nation’s founding. All these coins feature a dual date of “1776 ~ 2026” recognizing America’s 250-year journey.

Emerging Liberty Dime

  • Obverse (heads): A dynamic portrait of Liberty, winds of revolution in her hair, symbolizing America’s birth and resolve.
  • Reverse (tails): An eagle in flight grasping arrows, representing the Revolutionary struggle.
  • This design replaces the Roosevelt dime for 2026 circulation.

Mayflower Compact Quarter (and Other Quarters)

The quarter series will feature five distinct reverses released throughout the year, starting with the Mayflower Compact design:

  • Mayflower Compact — Pilgrims charting a new course in the New World.
  • Revolutionary War — Revolutionary imagery tied to Pennsylvania’s role.
  • Declaration of Independence & Jefferson — Honoring Jefferson and the Liberty Bell.
  • U.S. Constitution & Madison — Reflecting constitutional roots.
  • Gettysburg Address & Lincoln — Celebrating Lincoln’s enduring legacy.

Collectors can find these quarters in circulation, mint bags, rolls, and special sets.

Enduring Liberty Half Dollar

  • Obverse: A close-up view of the Statue of Liberty facing forward, symbolizing a forward-looking nation.
  • Reverse: Liberty passing her torch to the next generation, paired with the motto “Knowledge is the Only Guardian of True Liberty.”
  • This design appears on half dollars circulating in 2026.

Nickel and Penny

  • The nickel retains its familiar design but carries the dual date “1776 ~ 2026.”
  • The penny will also be struck with the dual date, though it’s for collector products only (not general circulation).

Beyond Pocket Change: Collector & Commemorative Pieces

The 250th anniversary program extends well beyond everyday coinage. The U.S. Mint’s official offerings include:

  • Liberty Bell Privy Mark Coins: Certain bullion and collector coins feature a special Liberty Bell “250” privy mark to mark the anniversary.
  • Best of the Mint Gold & Silver Medal Sets: Five special sets pair historic 24-karat gold coins with modern one-ounce silver medals inspired by the gold designs. Featured reissues include the 1916 Mercury Dime, Standing Liberty Quarter, 1804 Dollar, and 1907 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. These sets will be available in limited quantities only in 2026.
  • American Eagle & Other Classic Numismatic Issues: Silver Eagles, American Innovation dollars, and other collector coins in proof and uncirculated finishes also carry Semiquincentennial marks.

A Narrative Told in Metal

Collectively, the 2026 Semiquincentennial coins aren’t just currency — they’re a chronicle of American ideals, from liberty and unity to knowledge and constitutional governance. The collective redesign marks one of the most philosophically unified coin programs in U.S. Mint history, reflecting both national heritage and forward-looking optimism.

What Collectors & the Public Should Know

  • Circulation & Availability: New coins began entering circulation in early 2026, with regional rollout patterns varying. Collector versions, rolls, and special sets are available through the U.S. Mint and may sell out quickly.
  • One-Year Only: Most Semiquincentennial designs are exclusive to 2026 — meaning they will not be produced again, giving them added historical and collectible significance.
  • Historical Significance: Echoing the popular 1976 Bicentennial program, these coins will become cultural artifacts — cherished by collectors and everyday Americans alike.
